Project 58 is a guitar built by Mike Potvin of Potvin Guitars to be sold exclusively by Mountain Cat Guitars. It was born out of a conversation Mike and I had in which we wondered why no one was making double cut LP Junior reissues that were really accurate and had a neck that really had the feel of a 58 Gibson neck. After many subsequent conversations about how it should be done, the wood choices, best available hardware,and best available materials, We are now very proud to be selling our “Project 58″ guitars. One of the most important aspects was the feel of the neck. It has to be just right! I shipped Mike my 1958 Les Paul Junior and had him examine every aspect of it. I have been selling vintage guitars for over 20 years, and have sold many juniors, and in my opinion, this particular guitar has all the attributes that make the 58 junior so desirable. We had two friends who are junior lovers examine a sample neck that Mike sent. Adam Grimm of Satellite Amps in San Diego, and Nitebob, world famous sound man with years of experience in the guitar business were our neck approval team. The sample neck was quickly approved by both, and it was agreed that Mike had really recreated the feel of my guitars neck.
Since then, Mike has been building away and as you can see these guitars exceeded our expectations. They sound great, look great and feel like a 50′s junior.
